These 38 acres offer you extreme privacy with no restrictions and direct access to more than 9,000 acres of US Forest Service Lands. Located approximately 30 minutes north of Burnsville in Yancey County, this is “end of the road” privacy. To get here one leaves the paved state maintained road, and drives approximately two miles on a well maintained USFS road (any passenger vehicle can make it), before coming to a massive iron gate. Pass through the locked gate and continue for about 1/2 mile to the property.
This is in an area known as White Oak Flats and many years ago was a farming community of many families who lived alongside the massive Nolichucky River. The Nolichucky at this point is around 200′ across and is well known for fly fishing and rafting in the Nolichucky River Gorge. These 38 acres have access to the river via a deeded 30′ right-of-way over the shared gravel road that runs in front of the property. Therefore, if you are into outdoor recreation such as hunting, fishing or riding ATV’s, this is a good fit, and a real bargain.
Along one side of the property is a small creek branch and within the property is another spring fed branch. Getting onto the property is easy enough with the gentle topography along the gravel drive, then you follow the contour up to a very nice, broad gently laying ridge which is ideal for a house site if desired. Further up at the very top is a large flat top with 360 degree views, and just beyond this is the shared property line with the US Forest Service land. So by owning these 38 acres, you effectively have over 9,000 acres to enjoy to yourself, yet you don’t have to own it or pay taxes on it!
This property is shown only by appointment. A high clearance vehicle is suggested for driving the shared road beyond the iron gate. This road serves several other properties back in there, one of which has an occupied home lived in by folks who are four generation owners. Its a wonderful hideaway. It is definitely remote, so if you want to be away from the crowds, this is a great choice. But at the same time, there are a couple of well provisioned country stores nearby for day to day items. Hard to find property with river access adjoining USFS land at this price per acre.
