These 61 acres offer you extreme privacy with no restrictions and direct access to more than 9,000 acres of US Forest Service Lands. Located approximately 30 minutes north of Burnsville in Yancey County, this is “end of the road” privacy. To get here one leaves the paved state maintained road, and drives approximately two miles on a well maintained USFS road (any passenger vehicle can make it), before coming to a massive iron gate. Pass through the locked gate and continue for about 3/4 mile to the property.
This is in an area known as White Oak Flats and many years ago was a farming community of many families who lived alongside the massive Nolichucky River. The Nolichucky at this point is around 200′ across and is well known for fly fishing and rafting in the Nolichucky River Gorge. These 61 acres have access to the river via a deeded 30′ right-of-way over the shared gravel road that runs in front of the property. Therefore, if you are into outdoor recreation such as hunting, fishing or riding ATV’s, this is a good fit, and a real bargain.
These 61 acres have outstanding topography that is ideal for building. In fact, there are a couple of old farm buildings remaining on the property. A small creek branch flows through the property as well as a spring. You can easily walk or drive up the old driveway into the property and find yourself on a very large, gently laying ridge top encompassing several acres. It is exceptionally gentle, and many years ago was pasture. An interesting feature is a dry stacked stone wall several hundred feet in length along the roadbed. This is from days gone by. Continue on up into the property and you come to the USFS property. Step across the line and you are on a 9,000+ acre forest preserve. Its like owning your own national forest.
On the lower section of the property, you’ll find several flat building spots that long ago were garden areas. An old logging road meanders up from these spots to the rock wall. From up above, take your pick of home sites that will offer both mountain views and views of the Nolichucky River below. Its simply amazing. This private right-of-way that provides access also provides access to the Nolichucky River. NOTE: the property does not front on the river, but the right-of-way does and, that grants one access to step into the river to fish or go canoeing.
This property is shown only by appointment. A high clearance vehicle is suggested for driving the shared road beyond the iron gate. This road serves several other properties back in there, one of which has an occupied home lived in by folks who are four generation owners. Its a wonderful hideaway. It is definitely remote, so if you want to be away from the crowds, this is a great choice. But at the same time, there are a couple of well provisioned country stores nearby for day to day items. Hard to find property with river access adjoining USFS land at this price per acre.
