The Huntsville Farm is one of those properties that could be equally at home as a sprawling ranch in Wyoming or Montana.  If you’ve read “Atlas Shrugged” by Ayn Rand, then you’re familiar with the mythical hide out known as “Gault’s Gultch”.  Well, this could almost be Gault’s Gultch here in the western North Carolina Mountains.  The 257 acres are a mixture of gently rolling fields, orchards and mountain woodlands featuring a ten acre  deep water lake, all located at the end of a county road, well out of sight and mind.  Although it is hidden from view in a valley, it is only 40 minutes to Asheville, NC.  Click here for a video tour.

It is one of the most visually stunning properties we’ve seen in the Western North Carolina Mountains.  There are approximately 30 acres of open field and pasture land, perfect for livestock and agriculture.  The remainder of the land is wooded and rises up the mountainsides around the Main House.  There are springs and a very large stream that feeds the ten acre lake.  Throughout the forestland there are well maintained ATV trails, allowing access to all points of the property.

The approach to the property is very clean and scenic.  At the end of the county road is an electronic gated entrance then a 2,000′ long paved approach road to the Main House.  The approach road follows alongside the lake and curves its way up to the Main House which sits on a knoll overlooking the lake and fields.

The Main House is a log home masterpiece on two levels featuring 4,999 heated square feet.  The interior spaces are voluminous with high quality detailing.  The Great Room is enormous with a stacked stone fireplace, gourmet kitchen and large dining room.  There are three bedrooms in the Main House with the Master Bedroom the size of most great rooms.  There are two bedroom suites upstairs along with two loft and office areas.  There is a screened porch, covered porch on the rear and front and a three car attached garage.  The Main House is in excellent condition.  There is a rear yard area of approximately 1/3 acre that is fenced in which allows pets to roam free yet safely.

A second older home sits elsewhere on the property.  It is the “Red House”.  It too is a log home with wide front porch overlooking the lake.  This house is more modest and features two bedrooms and two baths along with a Great Room, Kitchen and another three car garage.  This house is in fair to good condition with some exterior deferred maintenance needed.

Tucked away in the corner of a field by the edge of the woods and a creek is an old Caretaker’s Cottage.  This older board and batten sided Cottage with metal roof would make for an ideal overnight getaway.  It has two bedrooms and one bath.  Its not in the best of shape but is certainly habitable for short stints.

Further up in the forest is a Hunting Hut that is very basic with no utilities.  Its more along the lines of a camping spot up on the mountain.  This would provide a great place for overnight camp outs.

From a prepper standpoint, the property offers abundant water, pasture, farmland, woodland and privacy.  This is the way to do it in style.  Could it be your own “Gault’s Gultch”?
