Looking for a comfortable mountain home that won’t break the bank?  Consider this Mitchell County home on six acres located on a mountain overlooking the Nolichucky River in the distance.  The property is situated in the northwestern corner of Mitchell County, approximately 25 minutes from the county seat of Bakersville although it is actually much closer to Erwin, TN and I-26.  That is, though this is a North Carolina address, your day to day shopping needs would be more readily met by going across the mountain to Erwin or even into Johnson City.  Drive time to Asheville is an hour south.

The property is part of a small cluster of home sites and houses started by a group of friends years ago, each having six acres a piece.  They share a common road through the community and have very modest covenants on the property, allowing basically any use excepting that of manufactured housing.  There is a recorded share road maintenance agreement in place, and neighbors simply pitch in each year with a very modest amount to help maintain the road.  There are two completed homes in the community with the remaining land being vacant.  Access is good via the well maintained gravel drive to this house from the paved Highway 197.  Once at the house, there is a commanding view of the mountains and Nolickucky River far below.

The house was originally built on piers as an elevated home on “stilts” much as one would find on the coast.  It was built with two bedrooms and two baths on the main level along with the living spaces plus a loft overlooking the vaulted great room.  A large expansive deck on the view side takes in the scenery.  The lower level was later enclosed into heated living space and connected to the upper/main level via an interior staircase.  On this lower level which is at grade you’ll find a den and office along with ample closet space.  The septic permit is for a two bedroom house, though the owners used it as a three bedroom house for decades.  There is also a large two car garage on this level.

The house sits very privately on its six acres with not another house in view.  There are several springs on the property and down at the bottom along Pound Mill Branch Road, you’ll find the actual Pound Mill Branch creek flowing along the property line.  Though the creek flows along the property line, its quite removed in terms of distance and elevation from the house.  Regardless, its a good thing to know that you have access on the property to a year round creek.  The topography of the six acres is mostly wooded mountainside without any pasture or fields, thus giving this home more of a “vacation” home feel.

At the asking price, its a real value play and this house would make for a great vacation rental property if desired.  Call us today to schedule a showing.
