Good quality, affordable homes having abundant acreage are hard to find in the greater Asheville area.  Well, this one may fit the bill.  It is situated approximately 40 to 45 minutes from downtown Asheville, therefore its far enough removed to be out of all the craziness that is Asheville these days, yet close enough to visit if you need or want a taste of upscale dining or big box retail.  In fact, you can get both of these much more conveniently in the town of Weaverville which is just about 35 minutes away which offers its own Walmart, Lowe’s, Publix but also a quaint downtown district with upscale restaurants and galleries.  Of course, even closer than that is the two traffic light town of Marshall on the banks of the French Broad River.

This property is several miles out from Marshall and the last two miles of the drive are on gravel surfaced roads, one of which is a state maintained road.  The point being, for those who want privacy and total quiet, this is an ideal choice.  Though it is somewhat remote, it is accessible year round and even a Honda Civic can easily make the drive in and out.  One benefit of the last mile of road (which is private) is that its bumpy and would be a turn off to most of those persons not having any business being out that way.  In other words, the location provides an abundance of security, which in this day and age, is getting harder to find.

Once you reach the property, you’ll find six acres of woods and fields along with a very well kept two bedroom, two bath home.  The house sits up near the high side of the property overlooking fields below and mountains in the distance from the very large open deck.  Inside there is a large sun drenched entry hall that for years was the owner’s home office leading into a very large open concept living area with very large living room, dining area and upscale kitchen.  Just off this is another sun drenched sitting room overlooking the mountains.  Toward the rear of the house is a bedroom, a well done bath with tile walk in shower and a very large mudroom with walk in closets and laundry area.  The Master Bedroom is on one side with a very upscale bath complete with claw footed tub.

The house has been well maintained and very recently had new carpeting, paint throughout and new roof installed.  It has central a/c and heat along with stainless steel appliances in the granite counter topped kitchen.

The land itself is generous in that it offers approximately two acres of gently laying open fields including a very small spring fed pond.  Yes, there is a spring that feeds the pond and flows through the six acres.  This area down below the house is ideal for gardening if one wishes to be self-sufficient.  In the other direction with a little tree trimming, there are views to the southwest and on most days you can hear the rapids of the French Broad River far below.

This property in a former defunct intentional subdivision community with home sites having five acres or more.  There are eight properties in this very quiet rural neighborhood and only a few houses of which only one is occupied full time.  There are some very old covenants that run with the land, however, these covenants have never been enforced and there is no HOA to enforce them.  It can be said that the current owners in this little community are very like minded when it comes to sustainable living, and they all keep to themselves.  So if you want to have a rural hideaway on which you can enjoy sunrises and peace and quiet, this might be for you.  Call for a private showing.
